How Does SampleStream Work?

How does SampleStream work?

SampleStream partners with websites/blogs and online properties that span almost any topic and audience utilizing the River Sampling recruitment methodology to find and deliver highly qualified respondents to our research partners. Each affiliate is given a unique affiliate URL code to place on a website or other traffic source. When visitors are directed to a vendor’s website via an affiliate URL, a special cookie is placed into a visitor’s browser. So whenever the same visitor comes back to the vendor’s product website and makes a purchase – the system recognizes that and all the commissions will be credited to an affiliate who referred the buyer.

River sampling is considered online sampling method that is wholly and solely sourced from online promotions using banners, pop-ups, hyperlinks, and the like. This method of random recruitment drives potential respondents to an online portal where they are screened for studies in real-time. Qualified respondents are then randomly assigned to a survey. The broadest River samples use a variety of online ads and promotions across thousands of web sites reaching millions of online Internet users. Targeted real-time sampling uses promotions on web sites that are frequented by a unique online population, such as social networks, to reach hard-to-find populations like young adults. Each SampleStream network partner’s online property goes through an initial rigorous authentication process to measure the demographic/psychographic characteristics of its users. This information enables us to build a sampling frame of our network and is used to customize and target samples for our research partners. SampleStream pays are sample-partners extremely generous commissions to ensure we attract the best online properties and that they stay with us enabling us to offer consistent and engaged sample sources you can quickly and easily access statistics reports to review and analyze a wide range of data as follows:

How are respondents invited to take part in a survey?

SampleStream exclusively uses pop-up invites which are Javascript mini-windows that lay over the bottom right of a page and contain the invitation text to take a survey. The idea is that if a visitor clicks “No” to an invitation, the invite disappears and it doesn’t render to that person anywhere on the internet for 90 days. If the visitor clicks “Yes”, we minimize the new survey window and have it open up again after the visitor leaves the domain. This methodology has a number of advantages primarily that pop-up blockers do not obstruct the process, its extremely effective as response rates tend to be the highest off the internet and ensures respondents are only invited to a survey once in 90 days.

Where are invites placed?

Not all technology and online properties are built the same. Generally, we place code for our invites in sections of the website that are common over the domain enabling us to offer the invite throughout the site. When a common element is not available we will place the invite in the most relevant or high-traffic pages on the site. Research has shown us the bottom left-corner is the best part of page to place our invites; however, we have the ability to render an invite anywhere on a page if it’s warranted.

Are invites customizable what do they look like?

To ensure credibility we customize all invites (change the colors, fonts, logos, messages, sizes, etc.,) to match surveys, websites, brands and more. We also add links to contact us and privacy policies. Experience has shown a good and credible looking invite increases response rates.

Example of a typical Invite on a homepage:

Can I control the function of invites?

Yes and No. Each affiliate and sample buyer has access to a dashboard where one can “stop” the invitation if a situation warrants it. However, the invite can only be started by SampleStream account managers. In normal operations invitations will automatically shut down when the set number of respondents has been achieved.

Can I use banners or links instead of invites?

No, SampleStream requires the use of our invitations as it’s a critical function in our sample management system used in monitoring sample incidence, payments and a number of other essential functions.

How long does it generally take to complete studies streaming from the SampleStream network?

Generally, we can fulfill quotas within a day to a week depending on a number of factors such as the size and complexity of the audiences required. A SampleStream account manager will work with our sample buyers to provide a realistic completion estimate during the project requirements phase.

What is Nthing or Frequency Control and how does SampleStream manage respondent invites?

Nthing and/or Frequency Control refer to the percentage of time and number of respondents a SampleStream survey invitation is displayed to a potential respondent. Our invites are customized to adjust the frequency and the probability that a visitor sees it. For example we can set the invite to give each visitor a 10% chance of seeing it or set it so that every 5th visitor has a 25% chance of seeing it, or so every 10th has a 75% and so on. The probability and frequency factors in our invites are dependent on factors such as site traffic and survey completion requirements. In essence, we have full control of the invite presentation parameters allowing us to be as random as possible in our recruiting leading to higher quality insights.

Are cookies used in the recruitment process and how long before they expire?

Yes, SampleStream places cookies on computers to validate respondent and ensure quality control standards. SampleStream cookies are also used to enhance the customer experience and usability of our website and platform. The SampleStream cookie is valid for 90 days and does not collect personally identifiable information on sample brokered through our network. SampleStream does not control our third-party cookies nor does our cookie policy extend to our third-party partners which may or may not pass cookies as part of their survey process.

In order to provide specific and target audiences to surveys we need to understand the basic demographic and psychographic profiles of our affiliate partners. SampleStream LLC reserves the right not to approve an affiliate’s registration based upon the results of this first survey

Why don’t I get commissions for the first survey?

SampleStream LLC does not pay commissions on the initial survey as we consider it part of the registration process. All data gathered in the registration survey is not sold or used in any other way but to market the site for potential affiliate paid surveys.
